OverviewUnder the direction of the South District Executive Director, the Aquatics Program Director oversees the operations of the aquatics department, all bodies of water, and programs; including staff supervision, budget management, contact management, Aquatics Team oversight, and planning. Coordinates and supervises the day-to-day operation of aquatic programs and safety services. Maintains records, directs other leads, and ensures proper pool maintenance. Provides swim instruction and lifeguarding as necessary. • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
• Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
• Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
• Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers.
• Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
• Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
• Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
• Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
• Directs Safety Manager, Pool Managers, and Lead positions.
• Manages lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid, and CPR training.
• Leads team training.
• Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets.
• Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
• Develops and monitors program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
• Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
• Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
• Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
• Assists with Swim Team Board and Branch Advisory Council meetings.
• Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness and participation in programs. Collaborates with the Sales and Retention Team.
• Ensures quality in program delivery, instruction, communication, and team conduct.
• Other duties as assigned.Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent.
  • One to two years of related experience preferred: for example, as an aquatics coordinator or supervisor.
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of:
    • Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens; New Employee Orientation; Preventing Workplace Violence; Workplace Harassment.
    • Completion of YMCA program-specific and trainer certifications.
