Job Summary
To provide independent advanced level nurse practitioner clinical
expertise to patients and their families on an on-going basis. This
includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions,
routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and specialty
protocols (e.g. chemotherapy) as defined by standardized procedures
or independently based on licensure. This may include non-invasive
or invasive procedures, surgical procedures, including operative
first assist per approved standardized procedures as identified by
the list available on the Medical Staff Office. Patient management
decisions are independent where appropriate after assessment of the
patient and interdependent with consultation with an attending or
other member of the team. NPs are expected to act as an expert
resource person for health care providers including nurses,
residents and other ancillary staff.
Provides patient care in a team based care environment to a
diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and
judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set
priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical
situations. Participates in patient and staff education.
Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own
practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.Apply By Date:

managing adult patients with chronic non-cancer pain and cancer
pain in an outpatient chronic pain management setting.One year

OverviewAnesthesiology and Pain Medicine is a leading multi
specialty practice offering comprehensive training, high-quality
patient care, conducting innovative research and educational
opportunities. It is one of the largest departments in the School
of Medicine with an annual budget of $79+ million and is comprised
of 90 faculty, 15 MSP MDs, 32 VCF & associated faculty, 58
Residents, 10 Fellows, 65 Nurse Anesthetists and 35 Administrative
Staff.
The Department provides patient care across many locations: UCD
Pavilion (main hospital), Lawrence J. Ellison Ambulatory Care
Center (ACC), UC Comprehensive Cancer Center, Hospital-Based
Clinics, and Community Care Networks (CCNs); providing service to
50+ operating suites each day and over 48,000 anesthetics annually.

partners. Department Specific Job ScopeThe Pain Management NPII
will provide independent advanced level nurse practitioner clinical
expertise to patients and their families on an on-going basis in
clinical visits to the pain management service. This includes the
management of complex chronic pain, cancer pain. pre &
post-surgical pain patients using medical and specialty protocols
as defined by standardized procedures. This will include managing
medical therapy for pain, post pain management procedural follow
up, beginning to continuing complimentary alternative therapy and
referral to other specialty providers. Patient management decisions
will be Independent where appropriate after assessment of the
