account.We are looking for a Research Technician II to join Dr.
Siobhan Brady at the University of California, Davis. Plant roots
serve as a major interface with the surrounding world. Siobhan
Brady and her research group investigate the ways plant root cell
types deal with stress by devising cell wall modifications and
natural barriers to resist drought, flooding, mineral deficiencies,
and other insults. Her group has demonstrated the modular nature of
these responses and aims to elucidate the genetic rules that
determine their composition, cell type dependence, subcellular
position and function. By learning directly from the multifaceted
ways that plants have adapted to stressful environments, this
research will be used to help mitigate the harmful consequences of
climate change. For more information about the lab About the
role:In this role, you will work collaboratively with the Brady lab
assisting with growth, maintaining and pruning of plants (including
but not limited to tomato, sorghum, maize and orchid). You will
maintain the root tissue cultures and work with genotyping, PCR and
related molecular biology tasks. Your contributions to the lab will
help them to understand and harness adaptive responses and help
address current and future environmental challenges.What we

- Perform skilled technical procedures such as Genotyping, PCR
and maintenance of root tissue cultures.
- Operate complex scientific instrumentation. Assist with
laboratory equipment maintenance.
- Analyze data, formulate conclusions, and build appropriate
statistical presentations, including graphs and charts, and prepare
and present written or oral progress reports regarding
studies.
- Collect, record, organize and verify the accuracy of data. May
use specialized software applications to assemble, manipulate,
format and/or perform statistical analyses of data.
- Actively contribute to laboratory meetings and planning
sessions.
- May participate in performing inventories of materials and
ordering supplies.
- May demonstrate and explain various laboratory techniques to
laboratory personnel, students, and others.What you bring:
- Bachelor of Science degree preferably in Molecular Biology; or
an equivalent combination of education and related work
experience.
- Two years of related research experience as research assistant
or Masters of Science training.
- Knowledge of laboratory protocols and techniques.
- Ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a diverse
population.
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, work
independently, use good judgment, and monitor completion of
assigned duties.
- Digital literacy with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and
Word). Having experience with the programming language R would be a
plus.Physical RequirementsRemaining in a normal seated or standing
position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by
extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with
fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using
the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters;

hire for this position in this location is compensated between the
