Senior Manufacturing Engineer
Company: Atomic
Location: Berkeley
Posted on: February 1, 2025
Job Description:
Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era in micromanufacturing
with its Matter Compiler (MC) technology. The MC enables new
classes of micromachines to be designed and built by offering
manufacturing processes and a materials library that is
inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. The MC
promises to unlock MEMS manufacturing both for the many device
classes that never could be made by semiconductor methods but also
to open up entirely new classes. Furthermore, the MC is fully
digital in the way 3D printing is digital, but where 3D printing
produces parts of a single material using a single process, the MC
is a multi-process, multi-material technology: bits and raw
materials go in and complete, functional micromachines come out.
The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device
- one that was only made possible by the existence of the Matter
Compiler - that we will be unveiling to the world soon. Our offices
are in Berkeley and Santa Clara, California. We are seeking a highly
skilled and innovative Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our
team. The ideal candidate will focus on improving manufacturing
processes while designing, building, and implementing fully
automated equipment. This role bridges the gap between process
optimization and automation, ensuring efficiency, safety, and
quality in our manufacturing operations. The successful candidate
will work collaboratively across departments to drive continuous
improvement and support production goals.Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze existing manufacturing processes to identify
inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve production
efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
- Conduct time studies, root cause analyses, and risk assessments
to support process improvements.
- Collaborate with production teams to train staff and ensure
adherence to updated procedures.
- Equipment Design and Development:
- Design, prototype, and build custom automated equipment
tailored to specific manufacturing needs.
- Integrate sensors, robotics, and control systems to create
fully automated solutions.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and
specifications for equipment design.
- Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of new
equipment on the production floor.
- Collaborate with device design teams and process
equipment/platform design teams to ensure seamless integration of
automated systems with existing manufacturing operations.
- Automation Implementation:
- Identify opportunities for automation in manufacturing
processes and recommend appropriate technologies.
- Program and configure automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs,
and robotic controllers.
- Conduct validation and troubleshooting of automated systems to
ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with software and hardware engineers to integrate
automated equipment with existing systems.
- Project Management:
- Manage projects from conception to completion, ensuring
timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including R&D,
quality assurance, and production.
- Document all project activities, including design iterations,
testing outcomes, and implementation steps.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all equipment and processes comply with industry
standards and regulations.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs,
maintenance manuals, and training materials.Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a
related field. Advanced degree preferred.Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a
focus on automation and equipment design.
- Proven experience designing, building, and implementing
automated systems in a production environment.
- Experience in semiconductor, solar, EV, or similar high-tech
industries, with knowledge of their processes.Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD,
Onshape) for equipment design.
- Hands-on experience with PLC programming, robotic integration,
and control systems.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, such as machining,
assembly, welding, or material handling.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma
methodologies.
- Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and
Arena software. Experience with drawing release processes.Soft
Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and
prioritize tasks effectively.Bonus points for:
- Industry experience in product development processes such as
Agile, ICSM.$140,000 - $220,000 a year
